Super Roadside Attraction: Superman Statue
My family came across the 15-foot Superman Statue roadside attraction many year years ago. It’s located in the town called Metropolis, Illinois. The town is only a couple of miles off Interstate-24 and is well worth the detour. Look for the water tower as you head south.
In past years we’ve browsed the Super Museum, the gift shop and the kids delighted in a cup of Dippin’ Dots. Unfortunately, on our latest visit during our trip to Disney’s Campgrounds at Fort Wilderness it was too late and everything was closed but we still had fun immersing ourselves in this superhero themed town. This time, the Super City Metropolis, IL sign and photo op was new. Despite the town being quiet, there was still a line for a photo. Below are some of my favorite features of the town.
The Ultimate Roadside Attraction: Giant Superman Statue
This attraction is obvious. The 15-foot Superman Statue found in Superman Square is the focal point of the area. Since our last trip, a selfie step inside the gated area was added for an easy snapshot of your crew. While you will likely be busy looking up, be sure to also glance at the ground to see the giant S.
Clark Kent’s Phone Booth
The classic Phone Booth, under the Daily Planet sign, where Clark Kent turns into The Man of Steel sits on the sidewalk and is super fun to pose in.
Superman Taking Flight
Look up and you might gasp, too. Superman is off to save the day. This almost airborne Superman statue makes for even more fun photo opportunities as you can see below.
Be a Superhero
Look around and you will see several superhero cutouts that allow you to fill the role as a super hero.
I hope you make time for this Super Roadside Attraction!
