Success Skills for High School, College, and Career

If there is one gift we can give our children, it’s success skills. 2020 has been a game-changer for everyone, but especially those involved in the education system, meaning students, teachers, and parents. I am speaking from experience. Two of my three children are in high school and it’s been fascinating watching them adapt to the new hybrid way of learning. As a parent, it is overwhelming to think college is around the corner yet the kids are not in school full-time. I find myself thinking, are my kids going to have everything they need for the future?

Then I read the revised edition of Success Skills for School, College, and Career by Cary J. Green, Ph.D. With 20 years as a university professor, it’s apparent Dr. Green is speaking from firsthand experience. He knows exactly what is needed for success and provides excellent advice on how to improve such skills. In fact, the content relates to anyone with a career regardless of age. The best part, my kids have already asked to read it!

I won’t spoil the book for you but here is what I appreciate about the book.

  1. Success Skills is conversational with relevant and interesting anecdotes, making it an easy read that’s challenging to put down.
  2. The topics covered are on point and include soft skills, self-awareness, attitude, communication, and so many other skills.
  3. Writing activities are peppered throughout the book giving the reader an opportunity to self-reflect and plan for the future.
