Storybook Island in Rapid City

In 1959 a magical land named Storybook Island was created by Merle Gunderson and the Rapid City Rotary Clubs. South Dakota has many fun attractions, but add this park to your list. This family-friendly location is free over the summer months and guest-supported through donations. The story-themed attractions are based on classic nursery rhymes and bedtime stories. A $3 train ride delights children while passing their favorite characters.

Yogi Bear and Boo Boo

The interactive scenes include Yogi Bear and Boo Boo with a basket for a fun photo op.

The Wizard of Oz at Storybook Island

One of my favorite scenes involves Dorthy, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion skipping down the yellow brick road with the Wicked Witch of the West looming overheard.

Fairytales Do Come True

Fairytales come true at Storybook Island below are scenes from Cinderella and Snow White.

Three Little Pigs

The three little pigs’ fable comes to life at Storybook Island, along with the houses made of straw, sticks and bricks and the Big Bad Wolf.

Nursery Rhymes…

Jack and Jill went up the hill… ouch!
